The “European Initiatives - National Development” Programme aims at enhancing the extroversion of the national Research, Technological Development and Innovation (RTDI) system which is one of the horizontal priorities of the Smart Specialisation Strategy for Cyprus (S3Cy). 


The Programme is the institutional framework for announcing the Transnational Calls for Proposals, in which the RPF participates and their content being relevant to the S3Cy Priority Sectors.


The present Call is announced in the framework of the European Programme “Active and Assisted Living (AAL)”.

Detailed Call Description:

Cyprus, through the RPF, participates in a series of European Initiatives (Joint Programming Initiatives, ERA-NET COFUND and Programmes under the Article 185 of the EU Treaty), which aim at coordinating the funding of research activity and the establishment of research priorities at a pan-European level, through the design and implementation of Joint Research Programmes.


The AAL Programme aims to create better conditions of life for the older adults and to strengthen the international industrial opportunities in the area of information and communication technology (ICT). The AAL Call 2017 aims to support innovative, transnational and multi-disciplinary collaborative projects demonstrating a clear route to market and added-value for the different types of end-users.


The focus of the 2017 call challenge of the AAL Programme is twofold:


1) The challenge lies in developing packages integrating different solutions that address the needs and wishes of end-users and add value to their lives.

2) The challenge lies in extensive testing and evaluating of packages in order to provide meaningful and significant results.


The Transnational Proposals are submitted, centrally, to the AAL Programme, by the Coordinator of each Transnational Proposal, according to the rules and procedures defined in the AAL Call for Proposals.


In addition, for every Transnational Proposal with Cypriot participation, the Coordinator of the Cypriot Consortium will have to submit a corresponding Proposal on the Research Promotion Foundation’s IRIS Portal (, no later than 13:00 on the next working day of the Transnational Proposal’s submission deadline.

Call Total Budget: €400,000.00 - this amount is expected to increase with a top-up EU funding, which will be determined after the final ranking of the Proposals

Percentage of Subsidy/Co-Financing:


Maximum Funding Per Project:

175,000 Euro for the Cypriot Consortium, or,

200,000 Euro in case a Cypriot Organisation is the Coordinator of the Transnational Consortium.
