The European Research Council (ERC) recently announced the funding of 66 new ERC Proof of Concept projects, in the frame of the first cut-off deadline of the 2023 Call. The ERC Proof of Concept is part of Horizon Europe, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation 2021-2027.
Overall, ERC announced the funding of 66 researchers with around €10 million, that implement or have recently completed an ERC project (Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, Synergy), in order to investigate how to bring an idea that has resulted from their project, closer to the market or lead to social innovation.
One of the successful projects, is a collaboration between Stremble Ventures LTD, a company based in Cyprus, with the Principal Investigator Prof. Niccolό Bolli from the University of Milan. This project aims to uncover the molecular signatures that are linked to the development of multiple myeloma cancer and could provide advanced warning of the disease.
ERC grants are among the most competitive grants in Europe and are considered a scientific excellence label globally. The ERC was founded by the EU in 2007 as the top funding organisation for supporting frontier research.
