Horizon Europe is the European Union (EU) funding programme for the period 2021 – 2027, which targets the sectors of research and innovation. The programme’s budget is around € 95.5 billion, of which € 5.4 billion is from NextGenerationEU to stimulate recovery and strengthen the EU’s resilience in the future, and € 4.5 billion is additional aid.
The Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership aims to boost the transformation needed towards a climate-neutral, sustainable, productive, and competitive blue economy by 2030 while creating and supporting the conditions for a sustainable ocean for the people by 2050.
This first co-funded call is entitled “The way forward: a thriving sustainable blue economy for a brighter future”.
This first co-funded call is entitled “The way forward: a thriving sustainable blue economy for a brighter future” encompasses all the five Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership Intervention Areas (IAs) declined for this call in five priority areas as follows:
Projects in this call must be impact-driven contributions to the transformation into a blue economy for a more resilient future and towards carbon neutrality targets, following an impact pathway approach. The projects will be developed at a pan-European level and in the different European Sea basins: the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. At regional level, complementarities and synergies with the lighthouses of the Mission “Restore our Oceans and waters” will be requested mainly on the valorisation of the outcomes of the projects.
A total of 36 Funding Organisations (FOs) from 23 countries (19 Member-States and 4 Associated Countries) have agreed to launch the first Joint Call for R&I proposals.
The list of countries are as follows: Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, and Türkiye.
Each partner involved in the project will be funded by its national/regional funding organisations. The consortium must therefore also comply with all the relevant national/regional eligibility rules.
To be eligible, research consortia must include partners from a minimum of three independent legal entities from three different countries participating in the call. Self-funded partners including partners from countries (and/or regions) not participating in this Co-funded call are allowed but do not contribute to the minimum eligible consortium size.
